Laura Moriarty's upcoming novel, The Chaperone, got a glorious review in the June issue of O Magazine. Due out June 5th, The Chaperone, tells the story of the woman who chaperoned Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. The reviewer, Nell Casey, concludes, "In this layered and inventive story, Moriarty raises profound questions about family, sexuality, history, and whether it is luck or will - or a sturdy combination of the two - that makes for a wonderful life."

THE CHAPERONE cleverly intersects the facts of silent movie star Louise Brooks' life with its fictional heroine Cora. At the beginning of the story Cora is a thirty-six year old Wichita matron whose twin sons will soon be off at college and whose life contains more secrets than are immediately apparent. Cora is given the chance to accompany fellow Wichita resident Louise Brooks to New York City in the summer of 1922. Louise at age fifteen is a striking beauty and aspiring dancer as well as a "wild child" whose father thinks she must have an adult chaperone for propriety's sake and staid Cora fills the role. Cora has an ulterior motive for traveling to New York City because of some unanswered questions about her past and returns to Wichita without Louise but with new secrets to keep as well as more freedom and confidence.
