Looking for a Louise Brooks film on DVD or Blu-ray? Here are my recommendations for the best available copies of Brooks' available films in the United States. Notably, the Kino Lorber edition of Diary of a Lost Girl also includes the 1931 Brooks' short, Windy Riley Goes Hollywood (as well as an audio commentary by LBS director Thomas Gladysz). The Criterion edition of Pandora's Box includes the documentary, Louise Brooks: Looking for Lulu. I do not recommend other discs you might come across as they are, generally speaking, of poorer quality. A few related documentaries follow at the end, as do a few other silent and early sound films of related interest.
A handful of Brooks' films are likewise available in Europe. As titles
or formats differ, fans should check online sites in their own country
for films like Lulu or La Canarina Assassinata. (The only European disc included here is Coffret Deluxe Louise Brooks 3
DVD - Loulou / Journal d'une fille perdue / Prix de beauté, a French
release which contains bonus material found no where else.)
Discs without a price are out-of-print. Click the "shop now" button to check the availability of used copies. (It's worth noting that the availability of early films comes and goes, so snap them up while you can.)
