The Louise Brooks Society blog in 2009

Believe it or not, but the Louise Brooks Society started blogging back in 2002. The LBS started on LiveJournal, and moved to Blogger in June of 2009. In the last year or so, the LBS has been migrating many of the earlier LiveJournal posts over to this blog. (The ephemeral ones, about now long-passed eBay auctions, etc..., were not moved.) So far, the 2002 and 2003 posts have been relocated. And just recently, most all of the 2009 posts have also found a home here.

Below are some of the highlights from 2009. It was a great year. Check out these posts, as well as all of the earlier entries in the blog archive located in the column on the right.

100,000 and counting

I just took a look at the stats for the Louise Brooks Society blog and see that nearly 100,000 people have visited this blog over the last couple, three years. Wow! That is gratifying. To date, there have been nearly 400 entries here on Blogger.  Thank you for your interest.

This blog is authored by Thomas Gladysz, the founding Director of the Louise Brooks Society. It is a continuation of the old blog at LiveJournal. Please send comments or questions to silentfilmbuff {AT} gmail DOT com.

Wishing and hoping

Happy Holidays to Louise Brooks' many fans all over the world!

We all wish for things - especially around the holidays. That's why I posted a new article at examiner.com about just that - what we all wish for, what we all want - more DVD's featuring Louise Brooks!

It seems to me that too many of her best films have not been properly restored and released on DVD. Some of my "fantasy" releases are detailed at this new article at http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-7605-SF-Silent-Movie-Examiner~y2009m12d23-What-we-want-for-Christmas---  Please check it out if you have a chance. And maybe, just maybe, someone at some company like Kino, or Milestone, or Criterion, or Flicker Alley, or Facets or wherever will read this piece and issue a new DVD with lots of good bonus material.

I think Louise Brooks deserves to have all of her films released on DVD. Don't you?

Lately, I have spent some time tinkering with this blog. I have added a whole bunch of related links to other websites and other blogs of interest. I also added a nifty widget so fans of the Louise Brooks and the LBS can listed to RadioLulu while they read this blog or surf the net. The new RadioLulu widget is located in the left hand column of this page.

There are now, as well, links to other worthwhile internet radio stations which play vintage music - as well as an rss feed to my articles on silent film from examiner.com.

Cheers! And lets all hope that 2010 will be a good year for new releases featuring Louise Brooks!

A new blog for the Louise Brooks Society

After more than 6 years and some 1,327 entries, I've decided to move the Louise Brooks Society blog from LiveJournal to Blogger. The old LBS blog is located at http://louisebrooks.livejournal.com

There is still a lot of work to be done in preparation of the move. I am still messing around with Blogger settings. And, I still need to redirect numerous links to the old blog and post notices of the change. Hopefully, the handful of readers the old blog attracted won't mind the change.

This is not a decision I came to quickly. I have been thinking about it a lot. I love LiveJournal, and it has been the home to the LBS blog for a long time. Actually, since I started blogging in 2003. However, Blogger's many features make it hard to resist.

This entry is something of a test. This new blog is a work in progress.
